Learning Outcomes

  • General Legislation Requirements
  • How MEN earthing systems operate and their relationship with testing procedures
  • How and why electric shocks occur
  • How RCD's operate and how to fault-find RCD problems, especially 'Nuisance' tripping
  • RCD cascading and why it is necessary
  • Loop Impedance theory, calculations and practical experiments
  • Insulation Resistance, Loop Impedance and Line Impedance testing of installations, plus practical experiments
  • Theory testing and practical demonstrations

Students are required to bring their own notebook and pen

Language, Literacy & Numeracy Requirement (LLN)

Participants must have general (Level 2) language, literacy, numeracy and physical capabilities to meet the performance criteria of this unit. (For further information or if you have any concerns regarding LLN and/or physical capabilities please contact the office).

Electrical Contractors are required to refer to the appropriate Standards when undertaking licensable work. Students will have electronic access to the following Standards in the classroom and we have hardcopies available to purchase at reception.
