Western Power Service Apparatus Connection (SACS)

Course Overview

This course is designed for Western Power authorised electrical workers employed by accredited contractors to be approved to connect consumers to the Network.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding the role and obligation of electrical workers and contractors with the "Service Apparatus Connection Scheme"
  • Conduct pre-connection checked tests
  • Explain the MEN system
  • Fix and connect a kWh meter
  • Terminate and connect consumers mains at a supply or universal pillar
  • Test connection polarity

Course Requirements

  • Applicants must hold a current WA Unrestricted Electrician's Licence
  • Letter of approval from Western Power to enrol in this course
  • Having a working knowledge of both written and spoken English

Persons wishing to undertake this course should apply to Western Power Inspection Services Branch [phone (08) 9359 7553] prior to enrolment to obtain approval to attend this course. This must be provided to us prior to enrolment being accepted.

Course Duration

  • One day (8 hours)

Course Delivery

This course focuses on the practical aspect of testing and connecting service connections. Various training aids and activities are included in the course (eg live connections) to enable participants to directly apply the knowledge gained in the workplace.

Certification and Assessment

Upon successful course completion students will be provided with a Certificate of Completion.

Theoretical and practical assessment will consist of the following:

  • A written test on the theoretical aspects of the learning outcomes
  • Final tests for an energised installation including fault finding
  • Energise an installation

Students are required to obtain the following materials and equipment for reference and use during this course:

AZ/NZS 3000 : 2018 Wiring Rules

Course Equipment / PPE

  • Long sleeved shirt and long pants
  • Safety shoes
  • Safety glasses
  • Rubber gloves rated at least 500V ac
  • Leather gloves
  • Cotton gloves
  • Hand tools required to make safe electrical connection
  • Multi Meter
  • Insulation Resistance Tester
  • Earth Loop Test capable of doing A-N Testing

NOTE: All testers are to have a current Calibration Certificate

Candidates are encouraged to bring their own measuring equipment and tools. You will be trained to use this equipment. CSTA meters, testers and tools are available but you must supply your own PPE.
